About Local Business Schema

What is local business schema?

LocalBusiness schema is structured data that states the practical facts about a business with a physical presence: its name, address, phone number, opening hours, price range and the area it serves.
Those details are usually already on the page, sitting in a footer or a contact block. Marking them up means a machine reads them as facts rather than inferring them from formatting.
This tool reads the page you enter and reports whether LocalBusiness markup is present.

Why the markup and not just the text?

Because inference goes wrong in ways you never see. An address split across three lines, a phone number written for humans, opening hours in a table - all of it is legible to a person and ambiguous to a parser.
The stakes are higher for a local business than for most sites, since the answer to "are they open now" or "where are they" decides whether someone visits. A wrong answer is worse than none.
It also matters that the details agree with your Google Business Profile and your directory listings. Consistency across those sources is most of what local visibility rests on.

What to include

  • The business name exactly as it appears on your listings.
  • The full address as separate properties rather than one line of text.
  • A phone number in the format customers would dial.
  • Opening hours, including the exceptions that catch people out.
  • Geo coordinates, where the address alone is hard to place.
  • A more specific type than LocalBusiness where one fits - Restaurant, Dentist, Plumber and so on.
Multiple locations need a block per location, on that location page, rather than one shared block on the homepage.

How this relates to AI search in 2026

Local questions are among the most common asked of assistants, and they are answered from whatever the system can establish confidently. Marked-up details are the most confident form those facts can take.
The alternative is that the answer comes from a directory listing you do not control, which may be out of date. Publishing the facts on your own site in a readable form is how you stay the authoritative source for them.
Where the markup disagrees with your listings, expect the disagreement to be noticed. Fix the mismatch rather than picking one to trust.

What this tool checks

It looks for LocalBusiness structured data on the page you enter and reports whether it is present.
It confirms presence rather than validating every property, so incomplete markup still passes. Use the list above to judge whether what is there is worth having.

Where to go next

Local markup works alongside the rest of what a page states about itself. Check the wider structured data, confirm your identity schema markup names the same business, and review the social media profiles you point at.
